If I wanted to start my own website, how advanced or how simple can web site design be? Nothing fancy, just?

a blog type of thing, but I want it to look nice. How complicated is this? Would I need to hire a professional, or can I do it myself?

Thank in advance to all who answer my question!

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95. You can see their Plan Details accompanied with reliable reviews regarding their service at:

No, no need to hire anyone! You can do it for free at Microsoft OFFICE LIVE. Its a website building website. You can either get a free address like ex( blahblahblah.officelive.com). Or, for like $1.00 per month, get your own domain name through them. ex(http://example.com).

Or, you can use GOOGLE GROUPS. It sounds like it might work better if you’re trying to make a blog site. Its also completely FREE!

Not hard at all. I did both of mine in XHTML and CSS and it looks amazing. The only requirement is you have to be smarter than Palin. Just giving ya a hard time.

For a very low price you can get your own personal domain name, a web site and free templates for making a site, photo albums and I am pretty sure a blog at 1&1.com (http://order.1and1.com/xml/order/Hosting;jsessionid=DBEBC099B6397327C143E53CB9B8C3F3.TC60a?__frame=_top&__lf=Static)

I am using them to host my site and it is less than $5 a month. I made my site with Dreamweaver, but their templates are great for a beginner to start with. I did use their photo album pages for some stuff I was selling and it is a nice feature.

If they dont have a good enough blog for you wordpress.com, blogger.com and http://www.livejournal.com are a free alternative.

Well, the rabbit hole is as deep as you want it to be…

If you don’t have any experience and what to get going, pre-built blog solutions are the best way to go. In fact, even if you HAD a bunch of experience, I’d say use a pre-built. They are very common, actually, and a lot of pros use them. They are pretty customizable if you like to tinker, and if you don’t, you can download a wide array of templates.

For blogs, WordPress is ideal. You can find a host that will charge you 6 bucks a month to host it (Bluehost.com is who I recommend…they have WordPress as a Fantastico Auto Install…meaning you just click a few buttons, and you’re up and running).

If all you want to do is ramble on in your own blog, and you want it to look professional, this is going to be the best approach. It’s cheap, it’s easy, and it’s extensible.
