How does a 49 year old web designer change careers?

It’s hard keeping a job in a design field. It seems people either like what you do or don’t. You can have 5 who love your work and 5 who hate it. It’s all subjective. As a designer, you’re at the mercy of weather people like your work or not. And the designer is the first to go when layoffs come around.

My friend is a web designer. She does flash, dreamwewaver photoshop ETC.. She’s very artistic. She’s also middle age.

How can my friend change carrers? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Look at any hobbies that you have are they something you could make money doing? like carpentry, plumbing, painting (houses or pictures) look for something you enjoy doing that could be considered a second career and build up a clientele to the point you don’t have to go back to your first job.

I suggest setting up your own website with a portfolio and offer your services as a freelance designer. Freelance work is more relaxed because you can do it straight from your home.
