What media could you use to isolate Staphylococcus and why is this medium selective?
MRS-medium
Mannitol Salt Agar
Salt (7,5%) will be the selective component in this medium. Staphylococcus is one of the few micro organisms who can tolerate such high levels of salt.
Mannitol will be the elective coponent, as only staphylococcus aureus can use it, and will cause a shift in the pH, turning an indicator from red to yellow
