How does the media cause girls to start an eating disorder?

I believe that the media is one of the major causes of eating disorders in girls. Modeling industries only want thin women so girls start to believe that they have to be thin to be pretty.

All they ever show in any kind of ads (or at least most of them) is really skinny girls. Most women do not and cannot look like them, but young girls are going to try to be "perfect" like them.

The other day, my 7 year old (who doesn’t have an ounce of fat on her) didn’t want to wear a sweater that I had taken out for her because she said it "makes her look fat". That’s just very sad.

You make a good point, but I don’t think it’s about girls wanting to be models, or invited to a modeling agency, it’s about acceptance.

Only beautiful women are shown in ads, with guys on tv / movies, and at parties. Girls want to be accepted and associate acceptance with beauty, which sadily enough, is a valid association.

Where the weight comes in I have no clue, I believe it’s because they just don’t understand, but for some reason young girls translate weight into beauty and therefore acceptance, the thinner I am the better off I will be kind of thing. Weight is simply gravity’s pull on your body, it’s no indication of beauty, I’ve seen 160lb. girls that were much more attractive to me than their 120lb. counterparts of the same height.

As far as a solution I haven’t a clue what should be done, but this site alone would make a great source for a case study of this epidemic!

There’s another side to the story tho, Obesity is unhealthy and not economical, it’s a little bit bad for the people around you and a lot bad for the person who is obeise, the media messages help America become healthier, and while child obesity needs to be dealt with, these messages are reaching kids in a very wrong way! Stories on Cleiberity clenses and fad diets certainly don’t help, there needs to be education as well as objectification.

One thing that will help you lose weight: a colon cleanse. I was one of those who did not believe in them until I tried it. And I tried a few until I found a great one that works (its all natural too! – it’s just pills, but you’ll detox, lose weight, and fell much, much better). You can go to
http://easy-fit.us and order you free trial, also you only pay $4.95 shipping and handling. Good luck!
