If the person or company has made it clear that their video is copyrighted then they are likely to take legal action. If someones video is copyrighted and you are ignoring that fact, then you are eligible to be taken to court which will most likely result in a hefty fine. If you were to post a film online, then that film company will be able to sue you an awful lot of money as they will have many lawyers and a lot of power. However, if the video is not copyrighted and you are able to prove that, then the person is not able to do a thing.

Anything is possible. That is why you get a lawyer to make an iron-clad contract that you get anyone who designs for you to sign.

It depends what part of "web designing" you’re going into. If it’s creative, then you will need to know Adobe Photoshop, or other professional software for image manipulation. If it’s the implementation side, you will need to know Microsoft .Net or PHP or any other programming language that will achieve the same.

How necessary is it to be artistic to qualify for web design? I am creative but lack artistic skills such as drawing, painting etc. I have designed web sites before and they were very presentable. As an official full-time web designer, how important would it be to be artistic, or would i be able to get by?

I think being ‘creative’ helps, as well as knowing code and having a grasp of design. Drawing and painting are not necessary as much as design is. I am a fine artist that learned design and I’m a multimedia designer (including web). Knowing design software; Photoshop, Illustrator, ImageReady/fireworks and being able to create images; buttons, backgrounds, banner ads, etc. doesn’t have much to do with painting per se.

Knowing artist tools and techniques -and- being able to code does put you in a unique position though and makes your skill set more attractive.

The less a ‘job’ (web design in this case) has to be piece milled out because you can only provide a portion of the required work, the better.

Having creative ‘hand skills’; drawing and painting, goes a long way.

I ask this because i thought there was but people seem to use the words interchangeably even on job adverts.
I thought a designer dealt with the coding of web pages and the layout and that a developer did stuff like dynamic and database.
Actually i just read in a book that these 2 roles are becoming increasingly combined maybe that’s why i was confused.

I need to include a salary requirement for a web designer position I am applying for. The job requires 1-2 years of HTML and CSS exp. and Flash design skills. The job is in a small town, but for a company that employs over 5,000 people. What should I ask to be paid per hour, having 1-2 years of web design experience?

Check some salary comparison websites to find similar positions in a similar geographic area. You’ve stated small town, but that could be a small town right outside a major city or it could be in the middle of nowhere.

I took a small town (where my wife grew up) in PA (about 45 minute drive from Penn State) and the starting pay was about $38-41K. Near where I live outside of DC (about a 35 minute drive), the pay starts around $68K.

The size of the company only matters a bit since they are probably aware of the market cost and cost of living for the area.

I’d really suggest looking at some salary survey sites to see if you can find what others in the area (or similar areas) are making and try to base your request on that. If you find that you think your request is high, you could always add a clause like "negotiable based on benefits included".

Is being a free lance web designer a a good career choice?

I’m getting my associates in Web Production and Design, and I would like to know (hopefully from other web designers) if being a free lance web designer is working out well for you guys. I mean, I wouldn’t mind working for a company of some sort, but honestly I would like the freedom to call my own shots. Thanks!

Free lance means you are responsible for all of the business side things like ensuring your Federal, Social Security and State taxes are paid out of your gross income, paying health insurance, life insurance, dental insurance and any other financial considerations. Health insurance alone will end up costing a lot more than if you were on a company policy (at my last job I paid $65 a month for full medical & dental a comparable plan would cost me $2000/month). Not only that but most tech companies will provide 401K with matching funds (which is free money) as well as educational benefits/paid training and conferences as well as even match funds for any charitable organization donations you make.

Just something to consider.

What courses do I need to take to become a Web Designer for High School and University ?

Your best strategy is to get a flexible 4yr degree in Computer Engineering Technology, or alternately "Computer Technology". Anything less, and you risk being stuck in a low level, low pay job.

San Jose State has a good program for the latter.
